I dropped the ball...

For the last month I have been almost invisible.  I've gone through a serious life changing situation and it's been a struggle to get my head back in the game.

I think I'm through the worst part of it and hopefully will be able to get caught up on everything that I had to drop.  It's going to be quite the daunting task to pick up the slack I created by my absence from the five blogs I'm involved with and all the promotional tasks I had to let slide.  But I'm going to attempt it without suffering a melt down, I hope.

Updates:

The winner was drawn for phase 4 of the Magic Seasons contest.  I held off announcing in hopes that the print copies of Autumn Dance would arrive but have been informed there was a printers issue and it is still being resolved.  The winner will have the choice of waiting for the print copy of Autumn Dance or take their pick of any of the first three books in the series.

And the winner is : Holly Letson !!   Congratulations!  You can expect my email shortly and a huge grovelling apology.   :)

More on the Magic Seasons ...  The blog for this series will be launched for the end of the month.  I'm working on some interesting tid-bits to add to it and it has turned out to be quite time consuming.

Links for purchasing MSS books : AMAZON   (print orders for Autumn will not be held on Amazon - only the author gets to wait. lol)
CLASS ACT BOOKS

Next...
The first book in the Animal Trilogy - Heart is up on Amazon Kindle now.  The print version will be shortly.   HEART     for other versions go to ETERNAL PRESS

I will be adding an Animal Trilogy page to the blog soon, I'm just finishing up on some information for the next two books.

The reviews for this new release are coming in, here's a few links :

Charlie Daye

Genre: Paranormal Romance

ISBN: 978-1478278634
ASIN: B008NZ1KYY

Number of pages: 334 approx
Word Count: 81,888

Book Description:

Oralia Simone just turned eighteen and discovered that she has been promised to someone by her parents for marriage. Not wanting to shame her family she agrees to participate in the matching celebration where she will dance for her betrothed.

Niko Raydon is a Hunter. He and his kind are what police the magical community and make sure that no one uses dark magic to harm another. Niko finds himself drawn to a small Gypsy village on the night of their annual matching celebration because of the use of dark magic.

Tobias McGrath is next in line to lead his clan of Gypsy's. He's been promised Oraila Simone - the most beautiful woman in the clan and intends to make her his no matter the cost.

When Oralia meets Niko the connection between them is instant and despite her impending marriage to Tobias she wants to be with Niko and he with her. But will their love be enough to set her free or will Tobias's use of evil magic tear them apart for good?

Short Excerpt:

The time had finally come for the annual matching celebration. Oralia had been dreading this day for the last six months.
It was six months ago that Oralia’s parents, Patrick and Efanie, had sat her down to inform her that they finally decided it was time she married. Having only turned eighteen two weeks prior Oralia was mortified. She had no desire to marry, much less with any of the men from her clan. It’s true there were a few that were pleasant to look at but for the most part her options were limited and it’s not like she got a choice in the matter. Her parents would make the arrangements prior to the celebration then hand her over like some gift wrapped prize to be won after the celebratory dance was completed. The wedding itself would take a place sometime within the month following the celebration.
The entire process disgusted Oralia. She considered herself a free spirit and had no desire to settle down. She wanted to step out and see the world, to experience new things, meet new people and have the opportunity to choose for herself whom she wanted to love.
Life at times could be so unfair.

Guest author Jessica Gibson

Today I'm turning the blog over to the author Jessica Gibson.

Thanks so much for having me on your blog today Jacqueline! Here are my top 10 favorite characters:)

1      Bones from the Night Huntress series~ Besides being very swoon worthy, he cracks me up. I actually imagine his accent as I’m reading (yes I know that’s sort of dorky) I just totally dig him.
2      Eric from the Sookie Stackhouse series~ He’s unapologetically self serving and cold. I love that in a vampire. But...he does have a soft spot for Sookie.
3      Claire from the Outlander series~ I love her, she’s so strong and determined. She wouldn’t let a stupid thing like 100’s of years stand between her and the man she loves. The perfect mix of hopeless romantic and level headed.
4      Jaime from the Outlander series~ Another swoon worthy character. His complete adoration of his wife Claire (mentioned above) makes my knees weak. Oh, and the Scottish accent doesn’t hurt either lol.
5      Dorothy from the Wizard of Oz~ Loved this series as a kid, and really, even still now. I love her innocence and belief in the good in people.
6      Harry Potter from well, Harry Potter lol~ This whole series was amazing. I loved Harry the most though. He came from nothing and made something great of himself. I like that a lot.
7      Cat from the Night Huntress Series~ I love how she’s such a bad ass. Nothing and no one gets in her way. I love the relationship between her and Bones too, they both are such strong characters.
8      Damon from the Vampire Diaries~ I love his character, he’s so deliciously bad. I’m a fan of a non traditional hero, and he fits the bill. Plus I love him on the show too lol.
9      Scarlett Ohara from Gone With the Wind and Scarlett~ She gets what she wants no matter what. She went from spoiled brat to determined confident woman. I loved seeing how the story unfolded between her and Rhett.
10   Alice from the Alice Clark series~ She’s so real. Like she could be someone you know. She’s strong and fragile at the same time. All you want to do is protect her from the world. I just love her.

Thanks again for having me on the blog today! Tell me, who are some of your favorite characters?

Number of pages: 192

Book Description:
Magic flows through Jillian Proctor's veins as surely as blood, but so far her life outside Boston has been peaceful. William Morgan blows into Jilly's life like a hurricane, unleashing her magic and sending her out of control.
Unknowingly, William brings an enemy who only wants to posses the power of the witch. Jilly must learn to harness her magic before she loses it - and everything in her life is destroyed.

Excerpt 1:

You may as well come out,” she called. “I know you’re in there.” Both girls scanned the trees for any trace of movement.

Finally, off to their left, a figure emerged from the thick brush. It was a man neither of them recognized. He was short and wiry, with bright red hair and freckles. Jilly thought he was almost too adorable to be afraid of. Almost being the operative word. He came to a stop about six feet in front of them and held up his hands in a gesture of peace.

“I don’t mean you any harm,” he said, reiterating the gesture. “I’m only here to set up a meeting between you and Sabine,” he said as he nodded his head in Jilly’s direction.

“And what if I don’t agree to this meeting? Will you mean us harm then?” she asked as she slowly rubbed her palms together. She felt the familiar reassuring tingle in her fingers.

“Sabine doesn’t want you hurt. She just wants to talk, but if I have to hurt you I will.” He walked a step or two closer. The look on his face was anything but friendly.

“I’d stay where you are if I were you,” Jilly said forcefully. “You really don’t know me.” She rubbed her palms faster. Her palms and fingers were glowing by now.

The man looked at her and shrugged before charging toward her. Jilly put up her hands and grabbed his arm; he went down fast. She kept a hold of his arm until she felt the warmth in her hands start to fade, and yelled for Caroline to make a run for it.

“No, I’m not going to just leave you here with him,” Caroline yelled.

“Does it look like I’m helpless?” she shot back. Caroline looked at her with narrowed eyes and Jilly said, “I’ll be right behind you, just go!”

Caroline nodded and took off running as Jilly started to rub her palms again. She shocked the man once more to make sure he stayed down for a while and took off after her sister.

She caught up to Caroline a little ways off from the house. They both ran at full speed the rest of the way back and up into the house. Caroline slammed the door and threw the deadbolt.

“Right,” Jilly said sarcastically, “do you really think something like a locked door is going to stop them if they really want to get in?”

“I don’t know, it just seemed like the right thing to do,” Caroline said in a nervous voice.

Animal Heart is out today!

The first book in my new Trilogy is out today!

Three women without knowledge of their true heritage...
Three men that have waited for their mate all of their lives...
Hearts and tempers collide with wild passions and animal instincts
in the Animal Trilogy
~
                                                               Heart

Torn from her sheltered life, Rayne is alone and scared after she discovers her fiancĂ© is not the man she thought he was.  Unable to accept the corrupt world he belongs to, she flees to the furthest possible location she can reach on her own.  Nothing could ever prepare her for the journey and what she finds out when she arrives.
Is she strong enough to survive on her own?
The epitome of the lone wolf, Devin stays in the wilderness and far away from people, avoiding the decision of whether to accept his title as leader and alpha of the pack.  One alluring woman stirs up his resolve and passion when she disturbs his solitary world.  The man inside is tempted in a way he can’t understand but his wolf knows he’s found his mate.
Can he have her without succumbing to the responsibilities waiting for him?

Excerpt:

If nothing else she was warmer now.  How long would the rain last?  Do I want to wait it out and then try to find a washroom – in the dark?  Rayne shook her head before she could go any further with that thought. There was no way she was getting out of this car until it was light out, rain or no rain.  How many hours until daylight?  She debated very briefly whether she could squirm around and reach the purse to get her phone.  Highly doubtful.  Besides being cocooned in the puffy material, the phone was off for a reason and turning it on just to check the time wasn’t worth the risk of Aiden being able to trace the location.  Truthfully she didn’t know if that was possible even though all the movies referenced it being so, but understanding what type of man Aiden was and what he was capable of, she wasn’t taking any chances.
Working one arm free from the bag, she shifted far enough forward to reach the ignition; he couldn’t track the cars clock.  Turning the key, her heart sunk when she noted the time, there were too many hours left until dawn.  She looked out the windshield and froze, her heart jumped into her throat. Afraid to so much as breathe, Rayne stared at the animal a few feet away from the headlight.  Her brain first said dog, but that was no dog.  That was a wolf; it had to be a wolf.  Were wolves that big?  It seemed bigger than in any pictures she’d seen.
She sat there looking at it, not sure if she should honk the horn or just sit and try not to get hysterical waiting for it to leave.  The car may be metal, but the roof was something this animal could probably get through. As she continued to stare at it she couldn’t help thinking it was a beautiful creature. It’s grey and brown fur looked soft and thick, not that she’d ever be able to find out if it was.  It was the way the haunting grey eyes watched her that made her decide not to honk the horn or scream as loud as she could, which had crossed her mind briefly.  Rayne was fairly certain it was as surprised to see her as she was to see it.  Didn’t wolves travel as group?  A pack?  She wanted to look around and see if there were more in the trees, but the logical part of her brain said she was better off not knowing.  Never argue with the logical part.
She was sure she stopped breathing all together when it took a step closer to the car and then turned quickly back towards the trees.  As she was reaching for the keys it stopped and looked back at her for the length of two heart beats before it bolted into the trees and disappeared.
Turning off the key, she sat in the dark leaning back against the seat while she tried to remind her body how to take air in. In this moment with her heart beating so loud she could hear it, or at least it felt that way, Rayne reached the decision that she was not getting out of the car until daylight, and even then was questionable.  One more conclusion was also not turning the lights on again; her mental state was much better not knowing what else was outside of the car.  She checked to make sure the door was locked, she did know a wolf wouldn’t just walk up and use the door handle, but she felt better knowing that she was locked in and more importantly other things were locked out.
Pulling her arm back into the sleeping bag, Rayne shuffled down as far as she could and closed her eyes.  The sooner she slept, the closer daylight was to getting here.  Over the noise of the water beating off the car, she thought she heard a howl.

Author Kinley Baker

Thank you for allowing me to visit again! I’m really excited to be here to talk a little more about Denied. In the first book in the Shadowed Love Series, the heroine is a Healer. In the second book, Tabitha is a Warrior with a will to fight. She possesses deadly precision with a blade.

In all honesty, I am completely jealous of the heroine from Denied. She gets to be hardcore, and I’ve always wanted to be hardcore. She gets to swing a blade, but unlike me, she actually knows what she’s doing. When she steps forward, other people step back (well, eventually… once they give credit to her mad skills), and when I step forward no one moves!

I am not intimidating at all, which has always completely disheartened me. So I had to write Tabitha because she is everything that I wish I could be. Stronger, faster, smarter, with a bigger heart.

Writing different kinds of characters is very important to me. Jessa from Ruined is very strong in her own way. Tabitha from Denied has a Warrior’s heart. I love it! I have more of a bunny’s heart. But I firmly believe that lots of women are born with the desire to serve and protect and they don’t get enough attention.

Tabitha’s fierce desire to protect the kingdom defines her. When she clashes with Caleb, it’s a battle to the very finish. Caleb comes from a culture where women are revered above all else, but he comes to realize that while they were revered, they were also coddled. They weren’t given the same opportunities as men.

In Tabitha’s kingdom, women don’t fight either. She battles for her right to be the first female guard in the kingdom. War comes to them, and they’re forced to fight together to protect everyone.

I love an awesome female fighter in a heroine. Tabitha is completely opposite from Jessa, but they both serve in their own ways. Next up is Arianna. She’s a spoiled princess with a wicked sense of humor. She tries to find her own way in a world that already rolled out a path for her.

I hope you enjoy the stories and keep fighting the good fight in your own lives.

Thanks for stopping by again, Kinley!

When invaders brutally massacred the women and children of the Varner, Caleb witnessed loss and destruction on a scale few can comprehend. As the leader of a race on the brink of extinction, his only hope for survival is gaining acceptance into the Shadow Shifter Kingdom. Struggling with new customs, he meets Tabitha, a woman who challenges his limits.

Refused the right to join the king’s guard because of her gender, Tabitha must be stronger than the men to prove she deserves to be the first accepted female Warrior in the kingdom. She believes Caleb will help improve her abilities, until she learns her goals conflict with the foundation of his culture.

When the realm is attacked, Tabitha and Caleb must come together not only to fight, but to find the strength to win against an evil with the potential to destroy everything they revere most--including each other.

DENIED EXCERPT

Right before entering the next clearing, Caleb caught a flash of color contrasting against the green. He paused, moving aside a few leaves so he could peer through the opening. His attention caught on a tantalizing sight.

A woman moved in a dance of lethal grace with her eyes closed. She swung her blade with the skill of someone long trained. Challenging only the air around her, it was clear she strived to improve her form.

Her beauty was only enhanced by her bare, capable arms. The sleeveless shirt and pants she wore were nothing like the robes of the Shadow Shifters’ traditions. Her biceps and triceps flexed, illuminating well-formed muscles.

Amusement slid through him. This was the first time he’d ever seen a woman with a blade. And he couldn’t help but admire her. Part of him knew he should admire no female other than his aroha, his fated mate. But the other part of him was intrigued by this display of warrior patience.

The women of his people had never been trained in battle. It was Caleb who had failed to protect them. The female in front of him didn’t look like she needed protection, and the concept baffled him.

A man should always stand between a woman and a fight. And if they failed to protect as Caleb had his own people, then the man should carry that weight around forever, and the guilt, just as he did.

Need for redemption soaked into his veins. Perhaps he could help this female improve her form to make up for his other failures.

“You’re dropping your left side,” he said, moving out from behind his cover.

Her head whipped around, her sword following with force. The very tip aimed toward his heart. Five feet separated him from the lethal point. He was not yet in danger so his gaze trailed from the sharp blade to connect with her gaze.

Honey-colored eyes clashed with his. Awareness shot through him. He did his best to hide his response. His entire world shifted, the foundation reforming in the blink of a second. The change. The moment every man of the Varner desired. The finding. Of the one woman meant to be his mate.

How many times had he imagined this moment?

The warrior woman was his aroha. His body pulsed to life. For the first time his lust awakened in response to another, just as the old tales stated. His muscles tensed, everything inside him urging him to act, urging him to brand. He was ready to make her his.

The fire in her eyes held him back. As well as the vivid distinction that this woman with a sword was far from a delicate female of the Varner. From his experience the past two years and the difficulty of fumbling his way through foreign cultures for the same length of time, he knew it was better to keep his revelation to himself. For now. She might not sense the connection like he could, like the women of the Varner had been able to.

His fascination overwhelmed the new ache in his groin. She was extraordinary. He’d never seen another woman like her. Fierce and strong with steel in her gaze. Beautiful, mighty . . . his. The core of him roared that this miraculous creature belonged to him.

“Who are you?” She jabbed her blade forward an inch.

He barely kept from smiling at her demand. “You’re dropping your left side when you turn.”

Her chin jutted up. “Are you such a fine warrior that you feel yourself worthy of dispensing unsought advice?”

“Some would say.” He moved closer to her.

She tensed, but didn’t attack. Perhaps it was the foot and inches of his height advantage that stalled her.

The sun shining through the trees bestowed a glow off her light brown hair, giving her an ethereal aura. Strong features curved with womanhood invited him to touch.

His hand almost reached toward her before he stopped himself.

Every inch of him yearned to claim his woman, his destined mate, his aroha.

His fingers ached to touch her and make sure she was real. Even if it was only to correct her sword form. Could he really have found the woman he’d searched for all of his adulthood after thirty-three years of living? He needed to brush her skin and make sure he wasn’t fantasizing. Although he knew this must be real because he had never imagined a woman like her.

He closed the distance between them.

“What are you doing?”

“Showing you how to keep your side up.”

After hesitating, she finally lowered her blade. “They say we aren’t supposed to speak with men from the Varner. The villagers call you giants.”

“We aren’t much different from you. And I’ve never seen a female Shadow Shifter train with a sword. I don’t think you’re a woman who abides by the rules.”

Was that a flush in her cheeks? He moved around to direct her arm. When he hovered near her, his front almost touching her back, she glanced over her shoulder warily. He kept himself far enough away so she couldn’t feel the press of his male interest. He ignored the flustered feeling inching up his spine. He’d never been snared by a woman’s scent.

He wanted to inhale her natural fragrance and brand it to his memory. In this open area near the forest where so many aromas mingled, hers stood out—a citrus blend of foreign fruit mixed with the spicy scent of flesh dampened from exertion.

His fingers closed over her grip on the blade. He showed her how to turn without dropping her side.

“Perfect,” he said, unsure if he meant the improvement in her form or the feel of her soft flesh against his roughened palm. He freed her with reluctance.

With a little space between them, she tried again, flawlessly turning.

She frowned. “Thank you.”

“I am impressed by your skill.”

“It’s not enough.”
