Finding THAT song... #MFRWauthor

Sometimes getting your characters to cooperate and do what you think they should do only takes the right song to be playing in your ears while you write.

Then again sometimes no matter what you do they are not going to toe the line and do anything you wanted 😀

I don’t know how other writers work but when I’m deep in a story I use music to help me focus and connect with the story and characters.

CafĂ© Serenity’s characters had quite a different song list than I usually listen to.  The songs are usually background for me to give me certain emotions and feelings, in Serenity’s case the music was feared for the characters more than my emotions. I was also able to put the characters favorite song in the story – it helps the quiet cafĂ© by day is a bar by night. J

Pascal’s favorite song is House Rules by Christian Kane – probably not your typical vampire song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Z1NPihh6oA

Attis’ is Give Me a Reason by Three Days Grace … a little more vampire for sure.  https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_tWBt_j2ayM

The females in the story preferred something a little heavier than my vamps did; Ladies Come First by Hinder was their song. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VXSPy9BunX8

I could go on for pages about music and how it helps with my writing or my mood in general, but I prefer people to stay awake when they read anything I’ve written.

I may have to write more stories in bars or clubs so I can incorporate my work music into the plot a little more often.  My beta readers said it gave them a feel for the character to know their music preference -  for me it just helps take me where my characters are trying to lead.

Magic Seasons Romance Book I re-release!

The Magic Seasons was my first (serious) step into the world of writing and like everything else I do, I jumped in full speed ahead!  The first book was written in 2006 (as a prank and ‘last’ word with a friend) and then we discovered it was good and that I could write.
I spent the next few years writing more, finally having Beltane published in 2009.  Then again in 2012.  THIS edition is the final and best version.

Thank you to the editors and proofreaders for rounds one and two, I know it wasn’t easy to correct for grammar and flow without losing how I saw my story and characters.

Beltane the season for renewal of life, love and danger…

Step into a world of magic and passion…
A group of friends come together to dance the Maypole

Take a dash of spice, a pinch of herbs
Soft candlelight and resonant drums
Add a flash of magic and watch the sparks fly
Toss in a killer that’s targeting women…

To the outside world she is just Leena Duncan.  A gentle woman with a troubled past, yet none know her full story. Her ability to control the elements and her knowledge of plants make her magic strong and unbreakable. It’s just too bad that she’s closed off her heart to not risk it again, having learned that horrors are possible, even with those who claim to love you. It only takes one man at the rainy Beltane celebration to change her outlook, and one killer to endanger her world.
Owen Grey, a well-known fantasy author, has returned to his childhood home to set down roots and reacquaint himself with old friends. Learning that magic is, in fact, possible, the second revelation is the one woman who calls to him: body, soul and heart. Even more surprising, he learns that with a simple touch he can relieve pain and lift emotional burdens, it just doesn’t help him deal with his own past.   While he may write about happily ever after, he knows it only as fiction. Until her.
With a killer targeting celebrants at these small pagan gatherings, leaving two bodies in warning, this little group of friends who welcomed him with open arms, are at risk if they don’t find the killer.

Wednesday's Book Hook - Cafe Serenity #MFRWhook #MFWRauthor

When he lowered his hand from her mouth, as if testing to see if she was going to scream it dawned on her what was happening. “I guess you didn’t do your research,” she whispered roughly. “Because if you did, you’d know none of that supernatural gobbley-guck works on me.”

The hand that had been over her mouth wrapped around her throat in a hold tight enough to prevent her from swallowing. “Vampires can’t compel me. Spells don’t work on me,” she gasped. “I’m completely resistant to your kind.”

Café Serenity

When Paranormal meets Normal, the last thing you’ll find is Serenity.

Something in Riverside is attacking those connected to Café Serenity, one of the local hangouts.

The not-quite human owner and her misfit group of anything but human friends and employees band together with the police to solve the mystery.

Simple task: just work with or around the Paranormal council of Elders, discover unknown soul mates, protect each other, and do it all without arising the suspicion or notice of the normal in town.

Just another day at Café Serenity.

CafĂ© by day … bar by night ... Vampires, Were, shifters, witches, trolls, demons, fey … and more all under one cover.
