1. Who is Julieanne Lynch?
I am a thirty-something mother of four (soon to be five), married to my childhood sweetheart and living in Ireland. I love books, all kinds and eras. I have an eclectic taste and it is full of variety. I love rock music, and adore Linkin Park. I like good food, but hate Chinese food. I have a very bad temper and my husband often refers to my mood swings as twin one and twin two. I love autumn and winter and crave the cold and wind in high summer. I hate queues and although I am religious, I avoid Sunday mass like the plague.
So to sum me up, I guess you’d say I am a book loving, line hating, music fanatic, mother who loves good food, God and her husband.
2. Where did you get your inspiration from for The Shadows Trilogy?
My inspiration came from my long love affair with vampire literature. I’ve read mostly everything from the early 1800’s take on vampires, to the most recent novels offered to us by Harris, Mead, Caine etc. Yet my fundamental love comes from reading the works of Johann Ludwig Thieck and John Polidori. Both these short stories opened my eyes to the great and long standing love of Gothic beasts in literature. Having fallen in love with the vampire early in my teens, it didn’t take much persuasion to carry on my reading and delving into the genre head first. Everything from Dracula through to Salem’s Lot inspired me. Like all the great vampire novelist’s, I wanted to create my own take on the genre and I feel that all my reading and dreaming has helped me achieve my goal.
3. In The Shadows is the first in the trilogy—tell us what’s next.
Next we see Giselle delve further into the shadow world in Walking With Shadows, and undergoes a transformation even she never imagined would happen. She battles the urge to embrace the darkness, yet all the while, her unborn child gives her inner strength and a gift she isn’t ready to accept. Of course, there are foes and ally’s at every turn, but she gains the courage to stand up against the darkest of them all. I can’t give too much away, but it is almost like a right of passage in book two, getting her ready for the mother of all battles in Fighting Shadows
4. Do you ever have problems with writers block? If so how do you get through it?
Honestly no! I am always thinking and jotting down notes throughout the day and night, that there is always enough information for me to base a chapter on. In most instances my books are planned out in advance and I always know where I am going. Yes, there are days when I don’t feel as passionate about what I am writing, so I take a break from that particular story and work on something different, breaking up the monotony. Like everything in life, a change in scenery always works a treat.
5. While working on a story, do you directly onto the computer or are there notebooks and
plot ideas jotted down in various places?
I always work directly on the laptop, but I do have notebooks and pieces of paper stapled together beside me at all times. All my work is planned out, so I never sit down and not know what I am going to do. I always have a clear route in head and a daily word count goal. I like to challenge myself.
6. What do you do when you’re not writing/editing or thinking about writing/ editing?
I am a busy mother of four, with another on the way, so I am never bored or get the chance to be bored. My children and home life do take up a large part of my life and of course I enjoy spending time with my husband watching our favourite shows, catching a movie or two and eating good food.
I have to admit that even when I am away from work, I do think about it. It just seems to be a subconscious part on my everyday existence, and in a way I am glad, because I find if I get stressed or home life is hectic, it’s a nice route of escapism.
7. If you had one piece of advice for all those writers sitting out there procrastinating about making that first submission, what would it be?
Submit! Never think that this couldn’t be your time, because you will never know unless you try. I think it is healthy to submit as much as possible, and yes, the fear of rejection is always going to play on your mind, but remember, it’s those rejections that gives us the determination to fulfil our dreams. I don’t think there is a writer out there who hasn’t had their confidence knocked by rejection, and even if they come in thick and fast you have to remember, that you are not alone. It’s a tough business, but a fulfilling and enjoyable journey. So what are you waiting for?
8. Please share your favourite scene with us from In the Shadows.
God this is tricky. There are so many that I love, but I do have a soft spot for consecration scene, when Giselle, dressed in her white gown walks down the stairs and through the crowd in the grand hall. I loved the gothic feel of that scene. The colours of the clothes, the strong smells of incense and flowers, the overwhelming feeling of being small amongst the vampires and of course Atarah. I think the scene is great and really opens the readers eyes to the motives of Atarah and of course softens our anger towards Leonid, and we are introduced to the delicious Antoine.
Thanks so much for taking the time to be here today, Julieanne!
Thank you so much for having me.

“In The Shadows”, the first of The Shadows trilogy, is an urban fantasy of vampires and the supernatural, and much, much more. In the shadows you will find lust and passion, battles for power and for blood, and death and fear around every corner. In the shadows you are carried away to an unknown future. Your destiny awaits, and you are no longer who you thought you were. You have a thirst, for blood perhaps, but a thirst for very much more than that.
Giselle was a normal girl with an attitude common to most girls of her age. Her family might not have been perfect (whose is?) but she loved them, and her future looked bright. She had an awesome best friend and a steady boyfriend, but how could she possibly have been so wrong about someone she loved? And how could she have been prepared for the darkness and for what she was to become?
“In The Shadows is a must read for anyone who loves urban fantasy.” ~Review by Dawn and Wini Book Lovers
“ Julieanne writes so eloquently you can feel and picture everything Giselle is going through, with no question as to what role every character in the book plays.” ~Review by Ada McEwan
“Julieanne is a great story teller with a vivid imagination for the supernatural. I absolutely love everything about it.” ~Reviewed by Firefly and Wisp
