Interview with Author Jordan K Rose

Thanks so much for hosting me today. I’m thrilled to be here as part of my Perpetual Light Blog Tour.

1. Who is Jordan K. Rose, really?

Hmm. Well… that’s a good question and I think the answer changes from day to day or possibly minute to minute depending on my mood and what’s going on around me. So, today I’ll say I’m a woman who’s open to trying new things. A wife. A writer, most certainly. I’m a chocolate lover, a wine drinker, a let’s go out and eat tonight-er. A somewhat opinionated woman. For example, there is no way I can agree with anyone who says white chocolate is better than dark. That’s like saying day-old bread is fresher than a loaf right out of the oven. It’s just not true. I’m a Boston Red Sox fan, in spite of their bad behaviour last year. An animal lover. I just adore my black Labrador, Dino. I also love my niece dog, Dakota. Well, I love the human nieces and nephews, too.

2. Where did you get your inspiration from for Perpetual Light?

What sparked me to write the story was reading ton of vampire stories right around the holidays. I read everything from the Twilight series to Dracula to The Vampire Chronicles to The Sookie Stackhouse series. Then with Christmas and church the idea spun around in my mind for a few weeks, and in January I sat down to write.

3.  Do you ever have problems with writers block?  If so how do you get through it?

YES! I make lists. That sounds kind of dumb, but I have to put everything else in order and then I can write. So everything from clean the bathroom, do the laundry, grocery shop, buy birthday cards, etc. goes on the list. Then I tick all the items off and it frees my mind to be creative. I find when I’m least able to write, I’m usually worrying about something other than my current story.

4. Perpetual Light is your first release, was the road to publishing what you thought it would be?
I didn’t really know what to expect at first. Once I joined some writers groups and learned what other writers had experienced, the trials and tribulations made sense and I’ve been open-minded about the whole process, expecting rejections, and considering them part of the process. I’ve learned how to improve my craft and to accept criticism even if I have a wild desire to punch someone in the mouth! (For the record I’ve never acted on that desire. I’ve just eaten more chocolate and blasted the radio!)
I will say the thing that surprised me the most was the marketing and promotion an author must do. I had no idea it was the author’s responsibility. In fact, the idea of it never occurred to me. I’m enjoying all the blogging and meeting new people and learning new technologies, but it has been busy.

5. What’s next for you?

I have two things brewing. The first book in my Eva Prim series is just about complete. Eva is a vampire looking for friends, which as you can imagine is somewhat challenging for an obsessive, tender-hearted, very opinionated vampire. She has a website at www.evaprim.com. And I’m working on the second book in the Perpetual Light series.

6. While working on a story, do you work directly onto the computer or are there notebooks and plot ideas jotted down in various places?

Typically, I work directly at the computer. My penmanship is atrocious! I sometimes wonder what the heck I wrote on one of my lists! But, I do have notebooks for everything, too. Sometimes I need to jot down ideas or details separately so I don’t lose them. Then I have notes connecting pages with each other. It’s very messy when it’s not on the computer.

7.  What do you do when you’re not writing/editing or thinking about writing/ editing?
I try to relax, but honestly in the back of my mind I’m always thinking about my current story. There is always some sort of detail for me to consider, whether it’s the development of a character, a plot idea or just the specifics of a scene.

8.  If you had one piece of advice for all those writers sitting out there procrastinating about making that first submission or taking that first publishing step, what would it be?

Like Nike said: Just do it. I can’t stress that enough. You can’t win, if you don’t play. The fear of succeeding or failing holds so many talented writers back. But, if you want it, get over it and get it done. I went into writing planning to be published, knowing that day would come but getting there would cause me aches and pains. I took the rejections into stride. I know Eva will be rejected by some, but I also know there is an editor out there just dying to meet her. I’ll plug along until I find my next editor. You can do it, too!

9.  Please share your favourite scene with us from Perpetual Light.

I love this question. I had to think about this for three seconds before an answer came to me. Then I stepped back to pick through all the other scenes I love and landed right back here. In Perpetual Light my hero, Vittorio, and heroine, Lucia, have a wonderful bond that allows them to share memories. Lucia is not as skilled at this as Vittorio, and he’s teaching her to utilize this ability by showing his memories to her.

He shows her the moment when he fell in love with her. It occurred on their vineyard in the 1600s when they were just teenagers. They grew up together. He was older and typically put out by her being underfoot and following him around babbling about whatever the topic of the day was. But on this day he sees her as a beautiful young woman and gets completely wrapped up in her charm. He’s so entangled that the work they were supposed to be doing doesn’t get completed. She, of course, blames him, which then leads them into a competition to see who is the better worker.
I love it because the entire scene is from his perspective and he describes her voice and how he wants to take the blame for everything and tell her he loves her, but he can’t. She’s not quite old enough to court so he has to wait and he doesn’t know if she even notices him in that way. It’s a sweet little scene.

Thanks so much for taking the time to be here today, Jordan!  J

Thanks for having me. I enjoyed the interview and look forward to hearing from your readers. I’m offering a $5.00 Amazon gift card to one random commenter.

Fate is cruel. Especially when the one you’ve sworn to love for all eternity, the very soul who changed your destiny is the last person you should trust.

After more than three hundred years of running, Lucia Dicomano must make a choice.

Forced to take her place as a Pharo of Redemption, the divine slayer needs to master her forgotten powers. Lucia turns to Vittorio, the one vampire she’s failed to deliver from eternal damnation. But overcoming smoldering remnants of love, lust and anger aren’t their only obstacles.

Samuel, who may know Lucia better than she knows herself, hunts her with a fervor stoked by a thousand years of vengeful hatred. His plan—capture and enslave the weakened Pharo then take control of her elusive power.

Can Lucia trust Vittorio long enough to reclaim her powers? Or will she have no choice but to kill him and battle Samuel alone?

About the Author:

After trying her hand at many, many things- from crafting and art classes to cooking and sewing classes to running her own handbag business, Jordan finally figured out how to channel her creativity. With an active imagination and a little encouragement from her husband she sat down and began to write, each night clicking away at the keys with her black Labrador, Dino curled up under the desk.

A few short years later she’s entered the publishing arena with no plans to ever turn back.

Jordan’s a member of Rhode Island Romance Writers, as well as RWA National, and the New England (NEC), Connecticut, and Fantasy, Futuristic and Paranormal (FFnP) Chapters.

Her first book, Perpetual Light, releases in February of 2012 from Crescent Moon Press.

Interview with Author Rue Volley

Today I have the pleasure of having Author Rue Volley
here on my blog during her tour for her Blood and Light
series.

  1. Who is Rue Volley, really?
That is a loaded question. I am first and foremost a lover and supporter of all art in all forms. I enjoy quiet evenings as opposed to loud but occasionally I like to go out. I am also a workaholic, suffer from OCD (but quite honestly I sometimes see that as a blessing in disguise). I am driven not only to succeed but to help others do the same.  I am a huge supporter of animal rights and gay rights. I believe that everyone should be respected for their opinion but also believe that some confuse opinion with fact. Lol I believe that if you don’t have something nice to say about someone elses work you should probably practice some grace and not try to discourage them from creating. Art is a subjective thing and people have choices, if you chose to read or watch something, it was on you not the creator of it. I am also a musician, I play violin and guitar and I played in a band for 12 years touring the states. Other things that I love to do? Well, I have a photography business and I love to make things, be it clothing or furniture. I guess I am a little bit of everything by trade.

  1. Where did you get your inspiration from for the Blood and Light series?
Blood & Light came out of the blue on me. I turned 40 and didn’t accept it very well.  I have always had a deep love for the vampire genre and I did not set out to write 6 full on novels in the series but as I wrote I found that the books allowed me to share everything in my life from past experiences and even things that I was dealing with as I wrote them. I dumped everything that I felt, including grieving for my biological father (who I lost to a sudden heart attack as I wrote book one). As the story progressed I found that I felt better letting the characters deal with all the past and present demons in my life, so by reading this series you really are invited into my life, all the people who I love dearly and how I feel about everything. It is a conceptual piece of work as the main character “Rue” deals with crazy situations and everything in between and as you read each book you will notice a change in the writing to reflect her as she matures. Each book is a full year in her life. She is the writer and it is as if you live the story with her.

  1. Do you ever have problems with writers block?  If so how do you get through it?
I am blessed not to have suffered from that, but I am driven and commited to writing the story and because it is me and contains a lot of truth I never found it difficult to keep moving forward. I wrote the first 5 books, 350 pages a piece, in 11 months and I know that is not normal by any standard…but neither am I. lol

  1. Smoke and Mirrors is the second book in the series, how many more books are you planning to add to the series?
I have 5 completed and I am working on book 6 now. I really have no idea how many books will be created in this series, it all depends on where the story takes me.

  1. While working on a story, do you write directly onto the computer or are there notebooks and plot ideas jotted down in various places?
I write everything on my laptop minus the first two chapters of book one that I wrote in a journal, before I purchased my first laptop back in March of 2010.

  1. What do you do when you’re not writing/editing or thinking about writing/ editing?
I do a lot of photography, not only shooting for clients but I shoot all the characters in my series and have been for the last year and a half. I designed the covers for the series and the clothing used, so I guess I make a lot of clothes too.

  1. If you had one piece of advice for all those writers sitting out there procrastinating about making that step to get that first book published, what would it be?
Just do it. Do not be afraid to share your work…regardless of some critics. The truth is you are only here once and why not do everything that makes you happy? My theory is I want to leave this earth exhausted, knowing that I did everything I could to succeed and help others do the same. Make the time, whether it’s in the morning before you go to work, on a lunch break or in the evenings. If you really want it, you will find a way to fit it into your routine.

  1. Tell us about the Blood and Light series in a paragraph or less.
Blood & Light is about the journey of one girl by the name of Rue Volley. She is a recorder of time, not a writer. These books are written by her and you find out later on in the series how important the books themselves are. The story starts out already in progress and you find out that Rue is dealing with the absence of her Mother (Grace) who has been committed to Rolling River Asylum , after she mysteriously stopped talking to anyone. William (Rue’s Father) has also been absent as he spends all of his time with her Mother hoping for a change in her condition. This leaves Rue with her only sibling “Kai” who is not mature enough to step into the role of parenting. Kai convinces Rue that she should attend a party with him (as she tends to spend more time in the library than with people) and she reluctantly agrees, it is at this party that the first paranormal strangeness occurs and then the story takes a turn and you realize that it is not what you expected it to be. Rue is actually a vampire, as is her family and with this new change in her life comes many crazy adventures and new adventures as well as love and epic battle scenes. This story is based on vampires, but they feed mainly on energy (the Chakra) specifically…so they each have a color that swirls on their skin in different situations and they can also see the colors in the air around them to track each other and food. I also mixed in a lot of alchemy, ghosts, demons and angels and each book adds new elements to the overall story. Anyone who wants to read snippets of the backstory can visit ruevolley.moonfruit.com.

  1. What is your favourite scene in the series so far? Why that one?
I have many, but I think the scene in the library when vampires start to materialize through the mirrors (as my vampires are able to portal through them) is one of my favourite scenes. There is nothing better than reading that battle scene and visualizing it to me. Just to think of looking up and seeing an entire ceiling of mirrors waving like water and then seeing feet coming through and them dropping one by one with katana’s in hand, all dressed in battle gear really gets me going. lol

Thanks so much for taking the time to be here today.

Enter into the world of 16 year old Rue Volley...who up until one fateful night at a party, thought she was "normal" or as "normal" as she could be. But "normal" does not include being a vampire...a truth about herself that she will soon discover.

Rue Volley lives in the quiet little town of Calvary, Minnesota...nestled in the thick woods lining the great lakes. Rue, along with her brother Kai have lived an otherwise calm life up until their Mother was commited into Rolling River Asylum, after she mysteriously stopped speaking to anyone. Rue is convinced by her brother to attend a party on her birthday and after she experiences something that she cannot explain, she and everyone in her world is thrown into madness. Join Rue on this epic journey, 6 books in all, as she struggles with grief, love, humor, old crushes, new found infatuations, hot boys AND vampires, lots and lots of them.

This first book in the series starts you on a journey that you will find hard to ignore and once you start reading you will be hooked...or perhaps bitten.

Book two in the Blood & Light Vampire series takes Rue, our teenage vampire, even deeper into the rabbit hole that has become her life. This book introduces a deeper look into the vampire city of “Valon” that all vampires derive from…taking a darker turn as you are invited into their world and their lack of compassion for the human race, and even in some cases, a total disregard for their own kind. As the story twists and turns you are also introduced to two new vampires, that of a sister/brother team by the names of “Jonah & Lily” who run a travelling carnival, luring unsuspecting humans into their lair, not only to seduce….but to feed upon.

Rue faces many dangers in this addition, not only from her own kind…but this new vampire breed…that of the rogues, who serve no one but themselves and their own desires. Rue also struggles with her want to be “normal” as she comes to terms with the fact that she is indeed a vampire of great importance, and as she navigates her way through this she is also coming to realize that Joshua Barrington has seduced her and perhaps stolen her heart. Please join us as you find yourself sucked deeper into an epic story in the life of one girl, who although she has good intention, may indeed be her own worst enemy. Book two is more graphic in nature…with language, sexual situations and violence. Sure to make you laugh, cry…and realize that sometimes you find yourself standing at the corner of WTF and OMG.

There are six books in the series, currently books 1 and 2 are available for sale at www.vamptasypublishing.co.uk

About Rue Volley:

Rue Volley lives in Indianapolis, Indiana with her two pugs "Momo" & "Oshi" and her fantastic and supportive husband, Von. She attended Catholic Schools her entire life and ended up playing in an alternative rock band at the age of 18. She played music, specifically guitar, violin and handled vocals for the band, up until 2004, then she met her now husband, Von, and moved from Ohio to Indiana and started to work in retail management.

She spent the next 6 years running clothing stores and then she started to write, producing the 6 book vampire series in a little under 11 months.

She released the first book, "Blood & Light", on authorhouse in 2010, which is a self publishing company, and within 6 months sold over 2000 copies of the first installment, she was then noticed and picked up by Vamptasy Publishing in the UK and now the entire series will be available through Vamptasy. Rue splits her time between writing and photography now and plans on continuing the series, possibly for 2 more installments. She is also working on a new series, about a teenage witch, and plans to release this series sometime in 2012 through Vamptasy too. Rue is completely dedicated to her art and to her fans...and believes that if you think you can do something, it is as good as done.

And because today is Thursday as in Excerpt Thursday and I've remembered that it is..
Here's an excerpt from the third story in Dreams - After the Dream

“Okay.”  Tess tried not to think about being in here in the dark.  “What’s ten feet?”
“This comes out ten feet up in the air.  Dom’s working his way up to it, or was until I told him about the grate, he’s gone back to the truck to get something to get through it.”
Her throat suddenly felt tight.  “How long?”
“Few minutes. Can you zap us out of here?”
She fought the panic that started with her chest tightening.  “No. I still can’t feel it.  I don’t know if I can do much longer, Brody.” His body moved closer to hers.
“Hey, I’m right here.  We got this, Tess.”
His breath brushed up against her cheek, making her realize how close he was now.  “I’m trying. As long as I was moving I was distracted and didn’t think about it, but now . . .” she felt his breath against her mouth.  Where the idea came from she’d figure out later.  “Distract me,” she whispered, her lips brushing against his.  Before she could think about it any further she kissed him quickly.  He didn’t pause for a second before his mouth covered hers in a rough kiss.  Heat replaced the fear she was feeling as his hard mouth took control over her own and demanded she focus only on him.
With a growl he lifted his mouth from hers long enough to pull her tight into his body and roll to his back. One hand grasped the back of her head as his other slid down over her hip to press her body into his.  When his mouth attacked hers again, she could only kiss him back with the same fevered movement.  She didn’t care then where they were, only the feel of his hard body beneath hers and the wicked things his tongue was doing to hers.  Lifting her mouth, she drew in a breath but before she could find his mouth again, his lips moved down over her throat until he found that sensitive spot that turned her bones into mush.  Gasping, she gripped his hair and held onto him.
With a groan, he dropped his head and moved his hand away from her.  She wasn’t sure what he was doing until he cleared his throat.  “Yeah, got it.”  Reaching down he depressed the switch and let out a slow breath.  “Dom will be up here in about two minutes.”
Where they were and what they were supposed to be doing rushed back at her.  “Oh.”  Lifting away from the heat of his body, she moved back to lie on her side in the tiny space.  She listened to how hard he was breathing and thought he may have cursed a few times under his breath, but she couldn’t be sure with how loud her own breathing was.
Brody moved around onto his side and placed his mouth right beside her ear.  “This isn’t finished, Tessa.”
It sounded like a warning more than a statement.  Keeping her voice quiet so Dom wouldn’t hear if he was near the top she leaned her face into his throat.  “We work together. . .”
“And so do Dom and Jenn.”
“They have that mind connection—we don’t . . .”
“Oh, we have a connection.” He grasped her hip and ground his still hard body into hers.  “It’s just much more on the physical plane.”

Interview with Author Julieanne Lynch

Today I have Author Julieanne Lynch, while she's on
tour for her book In the Shadows.

There will also be an opportunity to win:
during the tour multiple ebook copies of

In the Shadows

And 2 prize packs that consists of:
In the Shadows signed cover art, key ring, magnet,
personalized mug, business card, and pen- open to
international shipping.

The details for the draw will be listed at the end of this
post.

1. Who is Julieanne Lynch?

I am a thirty-something mother of four (soon to be five), married to my childhood sweetheart and living in Ireland. I love books, all kinds and eras. I have an eclectic taste and it is full of variety. I love rock music, and adore Linkin Park. I like good food, but hate Chinese food. I have a very bad temper and my husband often refers to my mood swings as twin one and twin two. I love autumn and winter and crave the cold and wind in high summer.  I hate queues and although I am religious, I avoid Sunday mass like the plague.
So to sum me up, I guess you’d say I am a book loving, line hating, music fanatic, mother who loves good food, God and her husband.

2. Where did you get your inspiration from for The Shadows Trilogy?

My inspiration came from my long love affair with vampire literature. I’ve read mostly everything from the early 1800’s take on vampires, to the most recent novels offered to us by Harris, Mead, Caine etc. Yet my fundamental love comes from reading the works of Johann Ludwig Thieck and John Polidori. Both these short stories opened my eyes to the great and long standing love of Gothic beasts in literature. Having fallen in love with the vampire early in my teens, it didn’t take much persuasion to carry on my reading and delving into the genre head first. Everything from Dracula through to Salem’s Lot inspired me. Like all the great vampire novelist’s, I wanted to create my own take on the genre and I feel that all my reading and dreaming has helped me achieve my goal.

3. In The Shadows is the first in the trilogy—tell us what’s next.

Next we see Giselle delve further into the shadow world in Walking With Shadows, and undergoes a transformation even she never imagined would happen. She battles the urge to embrace the darkness, yet all the while, her unborn child gives her inner strength and a gift she isn’t ready to accept. Of course, there are foes and ally’s at every turn, but she gains the courage to stand up against the darkest of them all. I can’t give too much away, but it is almost like a right of passage in book two, getting her ready for the mother of all battles in Fighting Shadows

4. Do you ever have problems with writers block?  If so how do you get through it?

Honestly no! I am always thinking and jotting down notes throughout the day and night, that there is always enough information for me to base a chapter on. In most instances my books are planned out in advance and I always know where I am going. Yes, there are days when I don’t feel as passionate about what I am writing, so I take a break from that particular story and work on something different, breaking up the monotony. Like everything in life, a change in scenery always works a treat.

5. While working on a story, do you directly onto the computer or are there notebooks and
plot ideas jotted down in various places?

I always work directly on the laptop, but I do have notebooks and pieces of paper stapled together beside me at all times. All  my work is planned out, so I never sit down and not know what I am going to do. I always have a clear route in head and a daily word count goal. I like to challenge myself.

6.  What do you do when you’re not writing/editing or thinking about writing/ editing?

I am a busy mother of four, with another on the way, so I am never bored or get the chance to be bored. My children and home life do take up a large part of my life and of course I enjoy spending time with my husband watching our favourite shows, catching a movie or two and eating good food.
I have to admit that even when I am away from work, I do think about it. It just seems to be a subconscious part on my everyday existence, and in a way I am glad, because I find if I get stressed or home life is hectic, it’s a nice route of escapism.

7.  If you had one piece of advice for all those writers sitting out there procrastinating about making that first submission, what would it be?

Submit! Never think that this couldn’t be your time, because you will  never know unless you try. I think it is healthy to submit as much as possible, and yes, the fear of rejection is always going to play on your mind, but remember, it’s those rejections that gives us the determination to fulfil our dreams. I don’t think there is a writer out there who hasn’t had their confidence knocked by rejection, and even if they come in thick and fast you have to remember, that you are not alone. It’s a tough business, but a fulfilling and enjoyable journey. So what are you waiting for?

8.  Please share your favourite scene with us from In the Shadows.

God this is tricky. There are so many that I love, but I do have a soft spot for consecration scene, when Giselle, dressed in her white gown walks down the stairs and through the crowd in the grand hall. I loved the gothic feel of that scene. The colours of the clothes, the strong smells of incense and flowers, the overwhelming feeling of being small amongst the vampires and of course Atarah. I think the scene is great and really opens the readers eyes to the motives of Atarah and of course softens our anger towards Leonid, and we are introduced to the delicious Antoine.

Thanks so much for taking the time to be here today, Julieanne!

Thank you so much for having me.

“In The Shadows”, the first of The Shadows trilogy, is an urban fantasy of vampires and the supernatural, and much, much more.  In the shadows you will find lust and passion, battles for power and for blood, and death and fear around every corner.  In the shadows you are carried away to an unknown future.  Your destiny awaits, and you are no longer who you thought you were.  You have a thirst, for blood perhaps, but a thirst for very much more than that.

Giselle was a normal girl with an attitude common to most girls of her age.  Her family might not have been perfect (whose is?) but she loved them, and her future looked bright.  She had an awesome best friend and a steady boyfriend, but how could she possibly have been so wrong about someone she loved?  And how could she have been prepared for the darkness and for what she was to become?

“In The Shadows is a must read for anyone who loves urban fantasy.” ~Review by Dawn and Wini Book Lovers
“ Julieanne writes so eloquently you can feel and picture everything Giselle is going through, with no question as to what role every character in the book plays.” ~Review by Ada McEwan
“Julieanne is a great story teller with a vivid imagination for the supernatural. I absolutely love everything about it.” ~Reviewed by Firefly and Wisp

Interview with Author Katie Salidas

Today I have the pleasure of having Katie Salidas stop by
on her tour for Karma and Melodies.

  1. Who is Katie Salidas?
I am Super Woman… Endowed with special powers and abilities, beyond those of mortal women, I can get the munchkin off to gymnastics, cheerleading, Girl Scouts, and swim lessons.  I can put hot food on the table for dinner while assisting with homework, baths, and bedtime… And, I still find time to keep the hubby happy (nudge nudge wink wink). I can do all of this and still have time to write my novels.

Sorry… I can’t even write that with a straight face.

Lies all lies.

Here’s the reality. I’m a sleep-deprived, overworked, mom who just doesn’t know the meaning of the word balance. Writing is my passion and so is my family, so I try to do it all when I can. Needless to say that leaves me feeling pretty exhausted most days.

  1. How long have you been writing?  What inspired you to start?
I’ve been writing since I was little. I always loved to make up stories and characters. It’s just a part of who I am. My first official writing project, was a novel I attempted to write when I was 14. I had just finished reading the Vampire Diaries series and wanted to make my own teenage story. I had most of it written and then was told we were moving from Texas to Nevada. Sadly those pages were all lost in the move. Though that accident hurt, it didn’t stop me from writing. I don’t write YA style stuff any longer, but I do still write about vampires and other such creatures of the night. They’re just so much fun to work with!

  1. Do you ever have problems with your characters doing what you wanted them to do?
All the time! LoL. I call that writer’s block. It’s also the reason I am a pantser. When I first started to write “officially” I thought I had to plot out every detail of my story ahead of time. Then my characters revolted! The refused to do what I had set out for them to do. That stalled my story and made me so frustrated at writing, I almost gave up. Then, I got some sage advice. Just relax and “free write.” I took a break and let myself write other things without a pre-planned plot. It was then that I learned I was a pantser. I don’t work well with strict rules and outlines. Now that I know that, my writing has become easier and my characters are more cooperative.
That’s not to say I never run into writer’s block. I still do from time to time, and there are many days where I have to scrap whole chapters because I have written myself into a corner. But, even with those stumbling blocks I’m still writing and creating.

  1. Pick one character from Karma & Melodies and tell us about them.
I’m going to go unexpected for a moment and talk about Mikey. He’s not one of the main characters but he was just so much fun to write about. He’s my male diva! He’s the guitarist in the band Normal Paradox and he has a slight prejudice against supernatural creatures.
What made him fun to write about was the conflict between him and Kendra (a vampire) and also his love for his band. He needed to keep Kendra around for Marcus’s sake but he hated every minute of it. Kendra creeped him out, he worried that she was going to use him for a midnight snack, and also didn’t appreciate the effect she was having on his lead singer, Marcus. However, even with all of that anger, he couldn’t tell her to take a hike, or drive a stake through her heart because ultimately she was a necessary evil.
The temper tantrums he threw and the names he called her along the way were just so much fun to write. I have to admit, I love writing argumentative characters.

  1. What’s next for you, any future releases coming out soon?
I’m actually prepping my latest book, Pandora’s Box for release in July. This book is number 3 in my Immortalis series and promises to be the most exciting yet.
Synopsis.
After a few months as a vampire, Alyssa thought she’d learned all she needed to know about the supernatural world. But her confidence is shattered by the delivery of a mysterious package – a Pandora’s Box.
Seemingly innocuous, the box is in reality an ancient prison, generated by a magic more powerful than anyone in her clan has ever known. But what manner of evil could need such force to contain it?
When the box is opened, the sinister creature within is released, and only supernatural blood will satiate its thirst. The clan soon learns how it feels when the hunter becomes the hunted.
Powerless against the ancient evil, the clan flees Las Vegas for Boston, with only a slim hope for salvation. Could Lysander’s old journals hold the key? And what if they don’t?
And how welcome will they be in a city run by a whole different kind of supernatural being?
Werewolves…

  1. While working on a story, do you type directly onto the computer or are there notebooks and plot ideas jotted down in various places?
Most of my writing is done on my laptop. I love the portability of it. I do, however, have a few notebooks lying around and I have notes on my phone as well.

  1. What do you do when you’re not writing/editing/promoting or thinking about writing/editing/promoting?
You mean there is something else besides writing/editing/promoting? LoL.
Actually, all of my non-work time is devoted to family. I work so many hours on the computer doing just that, writing, editing, and promoting that they often feel neglected. Weekends are work-free time (otherwise the family would mutiny). And family dinner, movie night, and game night are a staple in our house.

  1. This one has absolutely nothing to do with writing, but I’m getting ready for True Blood Season 4!  Bill or Eric?
Eric, definitely Eric!!! Even when reading the books, I really enjoyed the  chemistry that Eric and Sookie had. I know the TV series is vastly different than the books, but even taking that into consideration, the chemistry is there!!! I’m team Eric and I can’t wait for season 4 to start!

Thanks so much for stopping by today!!

Here's some more about Karma and Melodies

Kendra used to spend her days organizing events for Café Enigma while daydreaming about Marcus, the sexy lead singer of Normal Paradox. But all those dreams of becoming Mrs. Rock Star died, along with her mortality, the moment Hector entered her life and turned her into a vampire.

Ten torturous years later, Kendra finally escapes Hector and runs straight into Marcus. (Well, actually, he hit her with his car, but that's beside the point.) The accident leaves Marcus concussed and a few pints too low, forcing Kendra to share her blood to save him.

Sharing her blood doesn’t just heal Marcus’s wounds; it bonds him to Kendra in a magical “can’t live without you” sort of way. Now he’s professing his undying love to her, and Kendra’s not sure if he’s for real or just experiencing the side effects of their new blood bond. Either way, the two of them can’t be separated without suffering suicidal levels of depression, and the band needs to hit the road for the rest of their cross-country tour.

Kendra’s content to travel with the band and explore her new-found relationship, until whispered threats from her master, Hector, start invading her dreams. He’s tracking her down, and she can feel it. She knows the horrors he’s capable of, and if he finds out about Marcus, Hector will do everything in his power to destroy him.

If she stays, Marcus is doomed to Hector’s wrath. If she goes, the repercussions of their bond might kill Marcus. Both options will break Kendra’s heart. If they’re truly meant for each other, they’ll have to find another way....

Interview with Kaily Hart

Today I have the pleasure of interviewing Kaily Hart on
tour with her debut short erotic romance Picture This.

Hi Jacqueline, so glad to be with you today!
1. Who is Kaily Hart?
I’m a wife, mother, chauffeur, referee, ex-corporate
executive, type A, slightly OCD personality who is just
unable to stifle the urge to write any longer.
Now, I can add author to all of that!

2. What genres do you choose to write? Why?
Actually, I read across all the genres, but I started off
writing steamy contemporaries. Why? I love reading
a good contemporary romance and it didn’t require
extensive research (such as an historical would involve)
or complicated world building (of a paranormal). LOL.
While I love historical, I don’t think I have the voice for it,
but I do think I’ll head to paranormal at some stage.
I have too many ideas not to!

3. What is the hardest part of writing for you?
I find it’s the actual writing part! I love to start a new
book. It’s all shiny and new and exciting.  It remains that
way, but after the first chapter or two? Then it really is
hard work to adequately develop characters that the reader
can invest in, evolve those characters and thread through a
compelling enough plot with deep emotional undertones for
a satisfying story. Whew! By the time that’s all done,
I’m really ready for the next one!

4. What is the easiest part of writing for you?
Ideas! Ideas! Ideas! Ideas are the easiest for me. My
mind is constantly birthing ideas for stories, scenes,
characters and dialogue. I literally have an ideas file
that has about 35 books in differing stages of
development. Some of those I might never get around
to writing, but it’s fun to explore different scenarios and
try to come up with a premise that’s unique.

5. What do you do when you’re not writing/editing
or thinking about writing/editing?
Uh, sleep? LOL. Even then, my mind’s at work. I once
dreamt an entire story. I got up the next morning, wrote it
down and I have an outline for a book I’d love to write
one day. Seriously though, I have kids that are still young,
so anything outside of actual writing or writing related is
usually spent on some family activity. I also love interior
decorating and design. I’m one of those people who have
reams of designer magazines lying around. My house
needed a lot of work when we bought it and I’ve remodeled
it entirely both inside and out since 2005. It never seems like
it’s completely done, though. I’m always coming up with
some idea or another that I just have to try.
Hubby just rolls his eyes.

6. When did you realize you wanted to write?
This is actually a really difficult question to answer.

If you’d asked me two years ago, I’d probably have
looked at you funny and asked what you were smoking.
Seriously! I was heavily entrenched in the corporate IT
world. But things happen and stuff changes. Yeah, I
know very technical. It’s certainly been a journey of
realization. Today, I’d say it was at the end of 2008
when I sat down and decided I was going to write,
but I’ve since come to the conclusion that I’ve
suppressed it for awhile. I was always a voracious
reader, but I’m not really sure when the writing spark started.

7. While working on a story, do you write directly
onto the computer or are there notebooks and plot
ideas jotted down in various places?
I write directly on my laptop. Well, for the most part!
I carry a notebook around with me everywhere I go and
I’ve been known to jot an idea or some dialogue down
on a receipt, a kids school note, an appointment card,
whatever is available.
My desk sometimes looks like a patchwork quilt of sticky
notes where I jot things down as I’m working on the laptop.
I don’t want to lose my place in the story to put a note
directly in the manuscript or distract myself by typing it
into another document, so I’ll quickly put it on a sticky note.
Sometimes it’s just a reminder for the story I’m working on.
Sometimes, it’s a line of dialogue for another story entirely.
Sometimes, it’s a whole new story idea all together.
I often come up with the best ideas when I’m working on
something totally unrelated!

8. From your own writing, do you have a favourite
story or character? Why?
It would be really difficult to pick, but generally my
favourite is whatever I’m currently working on. I have to
be in love with it for it to be the best story I can write.

9. What’s one thing about you that your readers
may not know?
Well, at this point, they probably don’t know a whole
heck of a lot. I LOVE to travel. I love to explore new
places and get immersed in the character or culture they
have to offer. One of the best trips I ever did was a
driving tour my husband and I did of Scotland several
years ago. We had no accommodation booked and
just drove around. Absolutely beautiful!

10.  What other books do you have out and in what
formats are they available?
I wish my answer for you here was very long and
detailed, but Picture This is my first published book.
It was released on June 29 from Ellora’s Cave and I’m
still celebrating! I’m hard at work to ensure it doesn’t stay
by it’s lonesome out on my author page! I’m currently
working on 2 more novellas in the same vein as Picture This
(short, sexy with ‘rough around the edges’ heroes), I have
a full length contemporary novel simmering and I’ve
outlined a couple of short paranormal series I’d love to
sink my teeth into in the not too distant future.

Jacqueline, thanks so much for having me here today!
The questions were really interesting and fun.
Hopefully, my answers were too!

Great answers Kaily!!  Thanks so much.

Here's a bit about Picture This

Desperate and young, Jillian Moore did something
she knew would one day come back to bite her
in the ass. She’d posed nude. For money.
Years later, and on the fast track to a successful
career, she’s still haunted by her mistake.
She can’t help but wonder when her past will
catch up with her.

Samuel Steele is not short on female attention,
but the women who warm his bed pale in
comparison to the fantasy he’s created of
the seductive temptress in the painting
hanging prominently in his bedroom.
A fantasy that has ruined his once satisfying
sex life. When he discovers that her exact
likeness works in his building—for him—
things get…interesting.
