Book 28...

The first book I wrote was fast and easy - that one bleed into the second book, then turned into a five book series.
Somewhere along the way, I paused to mull over the fact that I had written ten books...
Finishing The Telepath was number twenty-eight.
Twenty-eight books.
Book 28 finished!
I'm shocked. I don't know how time moved that fast from 2006 until now, but in that time I wrote twenty-eight books.
Twenty-eight stories for the characters that talk to me - keep me awake when I'd rather be sleeping - drive me crazy as I try to unravel their stories - and often exhaust me to the point I lose track of days and time.
You know what? I wouldn't change it. I look forward to #29, #30 and hopefully #50 eventually.

WIP 109% complete??

I began writing the Cross Over Huntress for my NaNo in
November and once I hit the targeted 50,000 words I completed
my goal for NaNo !
In December I went back to the story to finish it and it was to be
roughly 80,000 words. Actually at the time in November I didn't think
I was going to make it to 50,000.  Apparently all the characters needed was a little time to plot without me.
Today it is 109% complete!  That's using the 80,000 word count.

Obviously my characters don't realize I have other deadlines because they won't let me be until this is finished!

I have five days off (first time in a year I've had more than two days in a row!) and I hope to finish it up by the time I have to go back to work. Of course I spent day #1 napping on and off but I'm awake and rested now!

One Million Words!

What started as an innocent question from one of my kids turned into a goal for me.
They wondered months ago how many words I've written in total (completed books, pre-submission and published)  so I added them up.

I've had the pink counter on the bottom of my blog for months and today I moved it to the top because I'm at 99% !!!  That's a whole lotta words!!

When I get closer, sometime this month, I'll be having a random give-away on twitter to help celebrate and then ... well I guess we up that counter to two million and see how many more books it takes to reach it.

Keep an eye on the counter...

Whoops!

I finished up After The Silence today and I'm thrilled with it.  Then again I always am until I do the final proof and edits and see all the plot blunders.

One of the first things I usually do when I start to work on a new story is google the name - I mean do you want to be the author of the second "New Moon" ?   Uh, no!
I didn't do this with my new trilogy I've been plotting and of course after I plastered it on my web site and mentioned it here numerous times I google it.  The trilogy name is already taken as was the name of the first book in it!
Hmm...
So the trilogy I had named Sisters of Heart is now Sisters Within Magic  and book I that I had titled The Witch that lies Within is now The Witch Descends.

Now that I have those little details out of the way I can finish the writing part.

Happy Wednesday!

Random Pic Sunday!

I happened across this and it is one of those
pictures I just had to share.

I guess this is how you can take your fish for a walk?...

Hmmm...

On to other things

I'm thrilled to say I just have
to wrap up the last few chapters in
After The Silence and then it's off to my
CP - and if I get the thumbs up it will be
off to the publishers!

I have other news brewing, but I'm
waiting for the final word before I
start splashing it around.

Hope everyone had a great weekend and
if you're in Canada - enjoy the holiday
tomorrow!

Excerpt Thursday - Animal Trilogy

I found some time last week - at least it feels like it was last
week - updating my site and adding excerpts to the things
I'm working on.

I've recently finished the first book in my Animal Trilogy -
Heart.  It's not all polished up just yet, but I am working on
it so I thought I'd share a piece of that one today.
~*~

Three women without knowledge of their true heritage...
Three men that have waited for their mate all of their lives...
Hearts and tempers collide with wild passions and animal instincts
in the Animals Trilogy

~*~
Animal Heart Excerpt:

If nothing else I was warmer now.  How long would the rain last?  Did I want to wait it out and then try to find a washroom – in the dark?  I shook my head before I could go any further with that thought. There was no way I was getting out of this car until it was light out again, rain or no rain.  How many hours until daylight?  I debated very briefly whether I could squirm around and reach my purse to get my phone.  Highly doubtful.  Besides being cocooned in the puffy material, my phone off for a reason and turning it on just to check the time wasn’t worth the risk of Aiden being able to trace the location.  Truthfully I didn’t know if that was possible even though all the movies reference it being so, but understanding what type of man Aiden was and what he was capable of, I wasn’t taking any chances.
Working one arm free from the bag, I shifted far enough forward to reach the ignition; he couldn’t track my cars clock.  Turning the key, my heart sunk when I noted the time, there were too many hours left until dawn.  I looked out the windshield and froze, my heart jumped into my throat. Afraid to so much as breathe, I stared at the animal a few feet away from my headlight.  My brain first thought dog, but that was no dog.  That was a wolf; it had to be a wolf.  Were wolves that big?  It seemed bigger than in any pictures I’d seen.
I sat there looking at it, not sure if I should honk the horn would be a good idea or just if I should just sit and try not to get hysterical waiting for it to leave.  My car may be metal, but the roof was something this animal could probably get through. As I continued to stare at it I couldn’t help thinking it was a beautiful creature. It’s grey and brown fur looked soft and thick, not that I’d ever be able to find out if it was.  It was the way the haunting grey eyes watched me that made me decide not to honk the horn or scream as loud as I could – which had crossed my mind briefly.  I was fairly certain it was as surprised to see me as I was to see it.  Didn’t wolves travel as group?  A pack?  I wanted to look around and see if there were more in the trees, but the logical part of my brain told me I was better off not knowing.  I never argued with the logical part.
I’m sure I stopped breathing all together when it took a step closer to the car and then turned quickly back towards the trees.  As I was reaching for the keys it stopped and looked back at me for the length of two heart beats before it bolted into the trees and disappeared.  Turning off the key, I sat in the dark leaning back against the seat while I tried to remind my body how to take air in. In this moment with my heart was beating so loud I could hear it, or at least it felt that way, I reached the decision that I was not getting out of the car until daylight, and even then was questionable.  One more conclusion was also not turning the lights on again; my mental state was much better not knowing what else was outside of the car.  I checked to make sure the door was locked, I did know a wolf wouldn’t just walk up and use the door handle, but I felt better knowing I was locked in and more importantly other things were locked out.
Pulling my arm back into the sleeping bag, I shuffled down as far as I could and closed my eyes.  The sooner I slept, the closer daylight was to getting here.  Over the noise of the water beating off the car, I thought I heard a howl.  In reaction to that I slid as far down as possible into the material and squeezed my eyes shut hoping morning would just hurry up and arrive.

Excerpt Thursday - Two today!

I thought I'd post from two different ones today.
Mystic Perceptions and the work in progress
After the Silence

Mystic Perceptions

Jac looked around the empty parking lot, not even sure
why anyone would ever be here. She glanced back at the
two men sitting in the car. They’re going to think you’re
crazy. She turned and walked over to the spot that had been
pointed out to her.
It wouldn’t be the first time someone thought she was
crazy, she frowned at the broken asphalt ground, and it
probably wouldn’t be the last.
Taking a deep breath, she knelt down and placed both
hands on the ground. There were glimmers of vibrations.
She focused harder, nothing solid enough to grab a hold of.
Moving her hands slowly, she tried a few more places.
~ * ~
“What is she doing?” Reid growled.
Brent shrugged. “I’m not sure.” He looked over in the
direction she was looking. “Does she see something in the
field?”
“Maybe.”
Looking away from her, Brent studied his partner.
“Why exactly are we doing this again?”
Reid rubbed his forehead quickly, and then glanced
back to her. “Because we’re out of ideas--and she has
looked at the same things we’ve looked at all along and
come up with something to follow every time.”

Nodding, Brent turned back to look at her. “She’s
presently looking at an empty field, surrounded by nothing--
pretty sure she’s seeing the same thing we did here.” He
watched as she walked slowly back towards them. “Why do
we have to wait in the car?”
“I don’t know.” The frustration was clear in Reid’s
voice.
Both men swung around in their seat to look at her
when she got in the back seat. Briefly she smiled. “Next.”
Giving his partner a scoffing look, Brent turned back
around.

AFTER THE SILENCE
When the super viruses began to increase was when the panic rose, the day that everyone old enough to rationalize knew there might be an end coming.  No medications seemed to work any longer, the germs had learned to overcome being suppressed.  If you did survive a major ailment, you were no longer a simple human; you became a mutated version of one and something that everyone feared. Diseases were no longer named or classified, there was just the virus.  It became a new specie, never the same symptoms or horrific details but still called one name. It turned out to be one specie that no one could placate with meaningless promises or hope to control.
By my twentieth birthday the only members of my family that remained were my father and brother. Unknown illnesses had claimed my two sisters and our mother.  I had gotten one of the viruses and the doctors said I was a rare miracle because I had escaped death and obvious mutation.  Yes I had survived and even though we never discussed it, I too was now some sort of sub human specie.  Of exactly what no one knew, I’d never tried to discover it, it was just something that I could feel was now inside me and something my family feared but never quite said so.  I learned my lesson though and stayed as far away from anyone that didn’t look to be one hundred percent healthy.  I wasn’t pushing my luck.
The world at this point had slowed down.  If you came in contact with anyone that sneezed or even looked unhealthy in any way – you went the other way as fast as you could and quarantined yourself for a few weeks.  No one was safe, no one escaped the invisible killers that took ten times the amount of the population that the natural incidents did.  There were no longer burials for anyone that passed to the next life; the laws now said bodies were to be cremated.  Even in death you were something people were afraid of, that your corpse would somehow still manage to infect them.
What did this mean in numbers?  A metropolis that once claimed millions of residents could be as low as a few thousand.  It was terrifying and it was now the reality the entire planet lived.  Births were fewer and fewer each year.  Survivors of the virus weren’t able to breed, no one could explain the whys though, but even those that had always been healthy weren’t having children. No one wanted to bring a child into this.  Most adults at this point weren’t certain if they wanted to live in this.
Oddly enough, we still had our advanced technology, if you could afford it.  Everything went to the highest bidder.  Those that couldn’t afford it lived in what everyone once called olden times.  The few elderly that had existed when life was slower and without high tech were the scholars now and reveled in being useful in society once more. It was their knowledge that brought the population back to what might be considered almost living.
My father in his paranoia when it all began started hording just about everything that could be accumulated.  We had enough food, clothes and supplies to last the length of this life time.  At first we had all looked at each other like he had lost all sense of sanity. His paranoia turned out to be wisdom few had.
As my twenty-first birthday passed, we lost him to yet another unknown disease.  This left my older brother and I on our own and not all together sure we knew what to do about it.  My brothers’ friends that had survived to this point all adopted me as their younger sister and responsibility.  I can’t even express my lack of enthusiasm to having six older male brothers trying to rule my every move.  Eventually they relaxed and began to teach me how to survive and if necessary defend myself.  It was a world where no one liked to walk alone any longer.  We weren’t safe from those that hadn’t quite made the transition of the times smoothly.  Many were what I’d say as stark raving mad – even though I often thought they’d just taken the easy way out and not dealing with reality might be the best at times.

After the Silence

Sometimes my muse refuses to follow schedules
I have penciled in.  On my to-do list it says I am
supposed to be working on various edits and writing
The Witch the lies Within (this is the second title when
I discovered The Witch Within had been used - several
times).  I was working on it when scenes from another
story started popping into my head..
So in the last two weeks I've done nothing with The Witch
but have taken After the Silence from the 900 word start to
over 30,000 words ... and it just keeps going!
I'm not sure why my muse feels this one has to be done
NOW but I'll take it.

After the Silence is not like anything I've written before,
there are no witches, curses or magic (that I know of)
it takes places in the near future when the world starts to
change and become a place not so comfortable to be in
or safe for that matter.

I thought I'd post a bit of it here and there to make up
for not finding the time to keep my blog up-to-date ...
again!!

Keeping in mind all of this is very rough and not
edited in any sort of way...

After the Silence
I was nineteen when the world went crazy – nothing that was would ever be again.

Remnants of a familiar world did remain, but not enough to instill those warm fuzzy feelings you get when life is comfortable.

I’m Bree Taylor and this is my story of how my life changed forever.

The years leading up to my nineteenth birthday were relatively ordinary, probably similar to your own.  The news broadcasted from time to time was of tragedy or natural disaster, but no one ever really took any of that as a sign of what was to come.

Things began to change and at first it still wasn’t anything I would call alarming.  Gradually over a year tragedy after tragedy grouped together started the spiritual fanatics harping that life was forever changed. Of course anyone that looked out the window or read a newspaper knew this, so really their spiritual connections weren’t giving them a special kind of heads up.  It wasn’t just the more frequent tornadoes, earth quakes where there had never been any before and flash floods in the oddest places that had everyone, including my family start to wonder, it was the weird fluctuations in the weather that brought most to the point of accepting some sort of abnormality on the planet was going on.  The skeptics even began to sit up and pay attention, finally admitting that a thing such as global warming might be a possibility.  When sink holes large enough to swallow whole blocks began to appear all the warning bells were ringing loud and clear.  My own thoughts, then, was Mother Nature had decided to fight back.  I know I would if you tore me down, used me up and polluted me at the rate the human race was to the earth.  I’d be more than pissed off enough to take something back and make a very loud statement.
