A new adventure in life...

Everyone I know is struggling right now, in one way or another. During the pandemic, the housing costs in my area doubled (along with everything else). My family and I had to move during it, so our landlord could profit from the rising property prices.  We managed to find a place for twice the cost of what we had been paying for seven years. (it was either here or homeless)

We’ve now decided to move again, but to separate places.

Finding a one-bedroom for myself will run me roughly $1500-2000/month plus utilities.  Working part-time on top of watching my grandkids won’t cover this. Royalties fluctuate from month to month, so it’s never a guarantee that I can count on a fixed amount. The past nine months have drained all savings and the stress of just getting by day-to-day is too much.

My solution: I'm taking an old camper trailer, redoing the inside, and converting it to solar power.   I have 3 months to do this.  I’m blessed with children and their partners that have various skills, so we can do all the work ourselves, it’s the financial end of it I’m having problems with.

It was a hard decision to make for me, to look at everything in my house that I have accumulated during my journey of life, and decide what I can live without, and what will have to be stored. I’m still working on it but feel confident that by September I’ll be at peace with my choices.   It’s also going to be a huge adjustment to live in a space like that with my husky – it’s a good thing the cool months will arrive shortly after our ‘move’, and that he prefers a snowbank to a fluffy bed ninety percent of the time during these months. By spring we should (hopefully) have reached an agreement on what is my space and what is his.

I could use a little help...donations, or if you’re not in the position to help that way, sharing goes a long way too.  Wish me luck!

I’m going to be posting pictures of our progress, fingers crossed it all goes according to plan.

The fund goal is up on my Ko-fi page.

Playing catch up (again??)

Now that I've found a home moved and (mostly) unpacked, I hope to get settled into some sort of routine that makes sense.  It has been a rough year.

I will have new releases coming out soon. Mystic Gifts Trilogy Book 2 - Dream Visions and Animal Senses Series Book 4 - Courage.  Dates had to be shifted around, but I should have them soon.

Something new in my writing world is you can now find most of my books on some reading apps. If you don't have time for sitting and reading until the book is finished (do any of us have that kind of time now??) try one chapter at a time (many of the first chapters are free). It's a great way to check out some of my books!
Just click on the link to check it out.

I don't have the direct link to my books for Readict, but something to note for both is my J. Risk books are listed under Jacqueline Paige 😉

It took me a week, then I realized it was OCTOBER! I've been so busy I missed that. LOL
So, for the rest of this month until November 1st, you can find some of my books on sale.

Click pic to go to my site that has fast links for each book.

Stay safe everyone and happy reading!

Coming soon - The Kinetic

Also lined up is the release of book 9 in the Alterealm Series- coming in November - last book, but not the last you'll see of these characters as they will make guest appearances in the Solrelm Series.

Fiercely loyal, determined and packed in a tiny frame—that is Kinsley.

She worked hard to prove herself as a guard and refuses to let anyone stop her. Even if her mother is her largest and most vocal critic.

Stinging from her failure to keep everyone safe on the island, she’s utterly shocked to be promoted to the Royal Guard. Now she’s even more determined to get everything right and nothing will stand in her way.

Expecting to be involved with battles for the realm and protection of those with Alterealm blood, she does not expect those challenges to be the smallest of the obstacles she will face.

But the last brother, newly returned to the Royal family is the one thing she couldn’t plan for.

2020 wasn't quite what I'd hoped for...

I haven't posted here since the start of the new year.
I just read what I posted at that point...
Yeah, 2020 did not turn out the way I had hoped.
2020 hasn't been anyone's year.

I'm not going to whine or complain. I'm thankful my family is healthy and together through all of this.

At the start of the self-isolation I got caught up on a lot of things I'd been avoiding. I think the entire country did this, as well as home reno's, repairs, cleaning out that scary closet no one will look in...

While working at the computer I found a new hobby. I posted many pics on my facebook page updating the daily sighting, here are a few...

Of course once summer growth started, I wasn't able to SEE these any longer- it turned into a jungle with the heat and humidity this summer.  I have decided to clear out the plants before winter, so I can see who visits.

The new way of life is still an adjustment, and with more waves of Covid coming (or already here), it's going to be a constant adjustment of "the new norm". We have mandatory masks in public places here and I honestly don't see that changing until 2021. I don't mind the masks, or even the controlled number of customers in stores (shopping without the crowds is always okay!) although wait times might become an issue once winter is here. The fact that everyone has had to slow down isn't a bad thing either in my opinion.

There have been enough good things in 2020 that I'm not stark-raving crazy:
I released book 7 in the Alterealm Series (The Telepath) in April.
I finished writing Book 8 in the Alterealm Series (The Healer) came out in June.
I finished writing book 9 in the Alterealm Series (The Kinetic) finished. (coming out in November)
I had several revamped/updated covers done.
Cafe Serenity was re-released in July. LOVE the new cover!
I just finished writing the 4th book in the Animal Senses Series - Fury (TBR in 2021)
and have several roughly plotted/planned to keep my muse busy until mid 2021.

I also got to meet grand-baby #8 at the end of July.

Leo 😍

Obviously he's not "new born" in this picture.

And 2020 has the arrival of grand-baby #9 (girl) coming in late October, early November!
I've been having ALL The grama fun with my grand-babies (all live close by except 1) SO - there is that about 2020, I had the time to spend with the babies and be their superhero 💟
I do hope my kids are going to take a break now though, 'cuz this grama is getting tired from the population explosion in the family.

And now back to edits...

Happy New Year!

Here's hoping 2020 is all that you hope for.

To simplify my life (and make more time for writing) I'm moving my blog from blogger to my website. It is my hope having one less social media stop will allow me to post more regularly.

A plea for help...

I've been sitting here staring at the "say something about this" space that you get when you go to share something. There are no words to describe how I feel about what my friend and editor is going through right now. I've shared her story many times and keep hoping that it was passed on enough times that some helped.
If I had a passport and thought my vehicle could survive a 14 hr (1 way) drive - I'd be posting this on the side of the road somewhere on my way to go get her and her husband and bring them back here. I don't have much, but I would gladly share all that I do. I borrowed money to send to her a few weeks ago, and once I pay that back will borrow more if I have to. I have no problem "going without" trivial things to help her.  It's been hot and humid here lately - but I'm able to go inside and get out of the heat... I have a bed to sleep in and a roof over my head... I can take a shower, do my laundry or drink as much water as I want...  All of these are luxuries to her and her husband currently.  (I'm trying VERY hard not to rant because it won't help in any way.)
My social media accounts say I have 1000+ followers - it is my hope that some of those will take a second of time and SHARE this or take five minutes and send a few dollars to her - sacrifice that second trip to get a chiller, iced coffee or frappuccino and send the money to help someone have shelter from the elements.  IF you think that little bit won't help, you're wrong- every bit helps.
Thank you.

http://iam-indeed.com/since-may/

Since May

Since our lives fell apart when the DH got sick and the insurance company gave us the mother of all run-arounds, life has decided to pile on the challenges. Of course, we’re not special or immune to the challenges that many face daily (or weekly), but it is the lack of available assistance from a government (or agencies) that are designed for aiding people who need temporary support while trying to reorganize and realign their lives in their ‘new normal’.

Since May

Every agency has come back with either “no minor children no help” or “come back in a week/month/next month” response – even those dedicated to ‘emergency’ short term help. From the VA to veteran’s organizations, churches, housing authorities and even some family – we’ve been stonewalled, delayed, pushed off or ignored. And not only does that mean that personally our situation becomes more challenging, but it also feeds into that Dante-like circle of hopelessness and helplessness that is never far from putting in an appearance.
You may wonder how “homeless’ isn’t the bottom of the barrel – but let me tell you – things can always get worse. From carefully counting each penny to be sure there is water and hydration because, well, dehydration in Atlanta is a very real and palpable danger. Wondering if it’s worth spending the five or seven dollars to eat (and trying to find something remotely ‘healthy’ because fast food is close and cheaper but does little, especially in this heat. Wondering if and when there will be enough to secure a roof over our heads for a night or two – time to shower and wash clothing (it’s dirty out there) rest in a bed, charge what electronics we use to connect to the world, and sleep without constant interruption because of weather, traffic, danger from the area – you name it. And worries about health -not the general get enough water and some rest – but actual health. The DH went into hospital for 9 days in December – Kidney issues, cardiac issues, hypertension and edema. Because of the insurance battles and lack of money – he’s not been on meds since the end of January. We’ve been homeless since 6 May, and in those 7 weeks he’s spent all but 12 days unable to keep anything down for more than about 8 hours – even water. We’ve both lost weight (inevitable given the situation) but the occasional fevers, sweats, vomiting and carefully deciding whether (or what) to try and keep down is exacerbated by heat, humidity and lack of shelter in the midst of the now-worsening heat. Not to mention the careful planning (and trying to locate) dry (or rain-protected) spaces with the afternoon storms that are so prevalent.
Even with all of these challenges, we’re managing to keep moving forward to some ‘unknown’ end – hoping that the next phone contact will bring some help, or assistance and our fortunes will change. For those asking about shelters – they are in both a bad area in downtown (about 18 – 20 miles from us) and single-sex – which would result in us separating – a move he is unwilling to take as the areas aren’t safe and he won’t leave me alone and far away from him. The VA is the cluster that is reported on the news.. family (who are willing) have helped, as have friends. But honestly – right now what we need is help to secure a room to get us off the street for a few nights. If you can help – any amount sent to paypal  at glhince@gmail.com or through FB Messenger Pay  will help- we need to get under cover and into shelter as temps are 90+ with humidity – and expected to remain that way for the next few days……
[room per night is running $85 with tax – we’d like to know we have room/shelter stability through the upcoming holiday)

Thank you to those that share or help. 😍

In a hurry...

Your driving along - doing the speed limit (mostly) following signs, laws and the lines on the road... using common sense...
The car riding on your bumper pulls out and passes - when it's not safe to do so...
You grip the steering wheel tighter and curse inside your head (or not) ...
THEN the one in the hurry turns off three seconds after passing you.
Apparently they HAD to reach that turn off ten seconds sooner for reasons so important it is worth endangering several other people along the way...

Book 28...

The first book I wrote was fast and easy - that one bleed into the second book, then turned into a five book series.
Somewhere along the way, I paused to mull over the fact that I had written ten books...
Finishing The Telepath was number twenty-eight.
Twenty-eight books.
Book 28 finished!
I'm shocked. I don't know how time moved that fast from 2006 until now, but in that time I wrote twenty-eight books.
Twenty-eight stories for the characters that talk to me - keep me awake when I'd rather be sleeping - drive me crazy as I try to unravel their stories - and often exhaust me to the point I lose track of days and time.
You know what? I wouldn't change it. I look forward to #29, #30 and hopefully #50 eventually.

Weaving threads together in The Telepath...

I finally wrote the last line on the last page of The Telepath - as I've mentioned (somewhere) before, this book was a mess of information.
I'd gone back through it three times while writing it to cut and move pieces because it just wasn't working for me. There were threads from the previous six books hanging all over the place - so I tied up all the threads.
Now I'm much happier with where it is. It's longer than I intended, but will be worth the read. (whew!)
I can't wait to see where the characters take me in the last two books of the Alterealm Series.

About After the Silence...

If you have signed up for my newsletter, you already had the chance to have this book in full for FREE this month!
(click here to sign up and not miss out again 😉)

If you want a taste of Bree's story, you can read the first ten chapters on my site HERE

I loved writing this story. It was different then anything I'd written before, and challenging because most of it was one person scenes.  The first half of the second volume is finished, but then I put it on hold because it wasn't generating the interest I wanted.  Maybe someday I will get to finish it.

One woman’s journey through the chaotic new world.

When the Mother Nature decides she’s had enough and begins to fight back, survival takes on a whole new meaning.

Those left standing make the paths for the future generations.

Bree Taylor is the last survivor of her family. With no other choice she sets off on her own to escape the clutches of the new government. Living in a world of unstable climate changes becomes a journey she won’t soon forget.

She has to be prepared for anything in the new country and be wary of every person she meets. All while staying out of the path of the new army: one that does not believe in the values of safety and security. An army answering only to the highest bidder, tasked with rounding up the survivors of the virus. A virus that is as vicious and random as the dramatic changes to the land and climate. Leaving trails of dead and mutated survivors in its wake.

If the earth is the enemy – there are no rules and all you can do is try to survive the odds.

I hope you take the time to check out Bree's story - you won't be sorry.

About Scent...

February 25th is the release of Scent - the second book in the Animal Senses Series
you can't help but love this group of tiger-shifters 😍

Sometimes the answers you get aren’t what you asked.

The world can tilt a bit and throw you off balance, just enough that you have to stop and make some adjustments.

When Kelsey comes home, she finds out her entire life and everything she thought she knew is a lie.

When her world spins out of control and flips in more directions then she could ever count, she struggles to right it again.

Chapter one and other links will be posted to my site as they become available.

I originally started our writing a trilogy, but by the Scent, I knew there were too many great characters to limit the series to just three books. It started with Heart and the third book Passion will be out later this year.

Hearts and tempers collide with wild passions and animal instincts.

Problem is I’m not a social person...

For years I’ve been trying to unravel the mystery of using social media to it’s full potential.

The problem I’m having is all ‘instructions’ and ‘advice’ say to “engage your audience”.
I understand the concept well enough, there is just one problem—I am not a social person in that way.

I can’t post every little detail of my life on social media. I follow many people that do and it can be entertaining, endearing and even interesting (how they find time to WRITE or do their job, I don’t know because they are ALWAYS on social media). Because I don’t-can’t-won’t do this I am not relatable and often am seen as only promoting myself (my books). I have more posts about my dog then I do my life.

I’ve tried several scheduling apps to schedule my posts to allow me more time for writing and well, life, but there is always a catch (or price) for these. One will let you post to 3 certain social media platforms, another will let you schedule any number, but only to one platform – so, I don’t have the solution figured out there either.

The social media management secret continues to elude me… I’ll keep looking for that solution that will work for me.

Pick a spelling...

We all notice it at some point, the differences between certain words in Canada, the US and the UK. It didn’t affect my life until I started writing. My editors would either correct my “spelling error” to the US version (for books edited and published in the US) OR ask me to pick a language, Canadian or American English.

I live in Canada so obviously I decided Canadian – which was bad for me. Reviews would say the editing and spelling errors were bad. Clearly these reviewers only read, thought in the US versions of spelling.  I ended up switching so my spelling when I write was in the US version – making my children and friends think I’m a bit daft because now when I message or text them, I use the US spelling.  -_-

Here are some examples for those sheltered to only reading/writing one version of the English language:

“honour”, “colour”, “flavour”, “armour”  ß Canadian
“honor”, “color”, “flavor”, “armor” ßAmerican
(A notable exception is “glamour” which retains the “u” in American, as does “saviour”) WHY this is, I don’t know!
“centre”, lustre”, “spectre”, “fibre” ßCanadian
“center”, luster”, “specter”, “fiber” ßAmerican and oddly enough the prairie provinces of Canada as well … Again, WHY???
“offence”, defence”, “pretence” ßCanadian
“offense”, “defense”, “pretense” ßAmerican

The list is long, so I won’t drone on about it.

This drives me crazy, still, 27 books later, so I decided to find out WHY! (for the Canadian versions at least) I won’t list the lengthy explanation about the reasons, but will include this link for you to check it out. Why Canadian English is spelled the way it is.

Now I have to get back to work and hammer out this dialogue/dialog for a scene where my characters are not cooperating/co-operating at all!
